For the past ten years a group of volunteers in Prescott Valley have given their time to set up the Healing Fields in memory of 9/11. It is a multi-day event with concerts, etc. The fields consist of more than 2800 U.S. flags. Each flag pole has the name, picture and a short bio of each person who died on 9/11. In addition, there are boots with each flag to indicate if it was a first responder and 10 teddy bears for the children.
The fields are all alphabetical. The volunteers have a complete index in a binder and can advise visitors of the exact location of a loved one who died on that day. If you know of someone who died but was somehow missed from their listing, they will add a flag for that person.
We had to opportunity to walk these fields and speak with the volunteers who were there on Friday. It is truly a moving experience to see all the flags in row and row after row. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who have worked on this display and give us the opportunity to pay our respects to all who gave their life that day.
