(A Breast Cancer Awareness Story)

Here in the North State NorCal Think Pink is well known for spreading the message of “Early Detection Saves Lives”.

This year my business partner, Bonnie, and I found a really different tie dye pink ribbon t-shirt and saw this as a way to help promote “Think Pink” in our local community.  (As with many organizations their usual activities have been curtailed).  We weren’t sure how successful we’d be given the current economic climate.

Our journey, though, was rewarded beyond the $$ donation we are giving.  Rynee, owner of Thrift & Gift, one of our local stores, went above and beyond with the display of the t-shirts and explanation of the cause.

It was during one of these explanations to a customer, a lady and her friend passing through Shingletown, that she learned that the lady had just started chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer and was still coming to terms with her diagnosis.  Not only that but it was the lady’s birthday!  Without further thought Rynee promptly handed the lady the tie-dye pink ribbon t-shirt she had purchased for herself.  A gift, she said.

This story of genuine caring for other people demonstrates that even during our current uncertain times there are still people in our local community who perform acts of kindness; something we can all be thankful for.  We are certainly thankful to have Rynee as part of our Shingletown community.
